Troop 175's origins began in 1950, chartered by Washington Elementary School. On December 1974, the Washington Elementary School charter lapsed.
Desiring to charter a Boy Scout Troop for the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Reverend Charles Willming (pastor: 1969-1987) seized the opportunity to charter Troop 175 for Westminster Presbyterian Church on January 1975. The original transitional Scoutmaster for Troop 175 was a scout leader from the University of Oregon.
Thomas "Doc" Macready graduated from dentistry school in Portland, Oregon in June 1974. Doc ventured to establish a dental practice in Portland, but as fate would have it, Doc found better dental-practice opportunities in Eugene. Yearning for active involvement in scouting, Doc articulated his desire to be a Scoutmaster with the local Boy Scout Council.
Needing a Troop leadership succession plan, Doc was invited by Troop 175, requesting that he consider accepting the Scoutmaster leadership position. On the first troop meeting visit, Doc was inadvertently introduced as the "new Troop 175 Scoutmaster". He graciously accepted the leadership position and was formally inducted as Troop 175 Scoutmaster April 1, 1975.
Doc made 3 promises to the Troop in 1975. 1) Have at least 1 high adventure each year, 2) Have at least 1 summer camp each year... Unfortunately, Doc did not keep his 3rd promise: 3) Be Troop 175's Scoutmaster for 3-5 years.
After 36 years, Doc continues to be Troop 175's Scoutmaster. His devotion, wisdom, and experience anchor Troop 175 Scout values as we continue to forge and develop our country's future leaders. We believe that Doc's unwavering leadership distinctly raises the Troop quality benchmark.

Troop 175 predominantly serves the following schools: James Monroe Middle School, Cal Young Middle School, St. Paul Parish Middle School, Marist High School, and Sheldon High School. However, Troop 175's scout membership extends to all Eugene-Springfield areas that include Springfield School District, River Road area schools, and South Eugene schools.
Currently, Troop 175 has 31 registered scouts and 47 registered adults. We have merit badge counselors for most merit badges that Scouting has to offer.
Continuing Doc's promise, Troop 175's big annual event is the yearly high-adventure trip.
In addition to the high-adventure trip, Troop 175 organizes between 9 to 11 campouts each year providing scouts ample rank advancement opportunities.
