About Our Congregation We come from many backgrounds and have a wide range of concerns and interests. Holding us together is our common desire to know more of the meaning of Jesus Christ in our lives. We seek an open and nurturing attitude toward one another. We welcome others interested in traveling with us in faith. Worship Services – 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday As we enter the Sanctuary, ushers hand out bulletins containg the day’s order of worship and announcements. You may obtain a large print copy at the information tale to the left of the Sanctuary door in the Narthex (entry). Assisted hearing devices also are available at the information table. A summer worship schedule, one service at 10:00 a.m., begins the third Sunday in June and ends the Sunday after Labor Day. During Worship Lord’s Prayer (Traditional) The Lord’s Prayer is usually repeated aloud by the congregation as we join hands. It is found on page 16 of The Presbyterian Hymnal in the pew racks. Lord’s Supper (Communion) We celebrate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month (and at other times as announced). You need not be a member of this church to participate. Children are welcome. Offering Each worship service provides an opportunity to financially help support the church, its staff, and local and national mission work. Contributions are voluntary. Children at Westminster Although children are always welcome in our services, we do provide seating in the Narthex for parents with crying babies. A nursery for small children is in the Christian Education wing. Many families keep small children with them until after “Time with Children.” Parents then escort the children to the nursery and return to the Sanctuary. Sanctuary Architecture Westminster’s many windows allow the beauty of the outdoors in and those inside to see out. The pews resemble park benches to create a feeling of being in God’s beautiful world. In September 2002 Westminster celebrated its 50th Anniversary by installing a new pipe organ built by the Richard Bond Company of Portland. Who are Presbyterians? “Presbyter” in the New Testament means a ruling elder of the early Christian church. In the modern church, out governing board consists of elders elected by members and ordained to provide spiritual and administrative guidance. This board is called the “Session.” Deacons, also mentioned in the New Testament, are elected and ordained too. What Do We Believe? The Presbyterian Church (USA) is sometimes referred to as one of the “mainline” American churches. We believe our Christ-centered and Spirt-directed mission is

Westminster’s church family and friends join together in diverse established assistance projects in our community, our country, and our world study, fellowship, and service ideas spring from conversations at coffee hour and other gatherings. Helpful Information After the 8:30 service, you will find a pot of coffee in the Narthex. Have a cup! After the 11:00 a.m. service, we share coffee, tea, or juice and cookies in the Fellowship Hall, down the hall and left. The restrooms closest to the Sanctuary are through the Narthex to the hall intersection and to your right. Easy-access restrooms are in the Meeting Room (right at the hall intersection and straight ahead) or in the education wing (right at intersection, left, and through two doors).
